Taccetta was nominated by student Evelyn T., who noted the following, "Walking into Mr. Taccetta’s class is always the highlight of my day. Even though he’s armed with a never-ending supply of dad jokes, I still have to give him credit. They always manage to bring a smile to my face. While the work and vocab itself can be challenging, he has a way of making the effort feel worth it. Honestly, there are times I think about leaving the Literacy Learning Lab, but then I realize I’d be giving up that daily boost of positivity he provides." #WeAreHFL

Recktenwald was nominated by students Rachel H. and Kumari J., who noted the following, "Mr. Recktenwald goes above and beyond to help students in all their subjects. He is a caring teacher who always tries to find the positive in any situation. He encourages students when they are getting behind and is great at helping students organize and prioritize their work. Mr. Recktenwald is always available to talk to when life gets stressful. He never judges. He listens and assures students that if they keep a positive attitude and keep trying, everything will work out. His calm, super chill, attitude is really nice and very helpful in high school. These students were nominated by a group of HF-L Youth Wrestling parents who noted the following, "These students truly stepped up to support our youth wrestlers this season. Despite their own schedules and practices, they made time to come in and help out. Whether it was helping with the beginner kids or being one of the more advanced kid's partners. Their willingness to give back to the very program where they first began their wrestling journeys speaks volumes about their character. They served as role models making a meaningful impact on our younger athletes." #WeAreHFL

Today’s Superintendent’s Conference Day was all about learning, collaboration, and creativity across the district, with approximately 33 different sessions offering something for everyone.

A standout highlight was our student-led sessions, where students took the lead and shared their expertise and perspectives:

🤖 AI Student Panel – Students shared how they’re using AI in and out of the classroom and sparked meaningful discussion around learning, motivation, and academic integrity.

🍦 Make & Take: No-Churn Ice Cream – A fun, hands-on session where participants created their own two-ingredient ice cream and walked away with a sweet summer skill.

🐾 Make & Take: Cougar Swag – Staff designed and created Cougar Pride-inspired jewelry while tapping into creativity and school spirit.

A full day of learning, connection, and student voice leading the way. 🖤💛 #WeAreHFL

Last October, HF-L High School welcomed 20 students from Bréquigny High School in Brittany, France—and two weeks ago, it was our students' turn to visit them in Rennes, Rochester’s sister city!

Reuniting with friends and exploring places like Mont Saint-Michel, Saint-Malo, the D-Day beaches, and Paris made for an unforgettable experience for our French and Spanish students.
